How to use painters tape

Learn how to use painters tape to achieve sharp, clean lines for a neat and professional look on your home painting projects.

1. Preparation

Prep the surface by cleaning off any dirt and dust, repairing any cracks, and smoothen out uneven surfaces.

2. Apply the tape

Apply light pressure on the tape when taping around the intended painting area in order to avoid creating air pockets that can cause paint to seep under the tape.

3. Start painting

Gently paint along the edge of the tape. Allow the paint to dry sufficiently before recoating.

4. Remove the tape

Let the paint fully dry before carefully removing the tape at a 45° angle to prevent peeling. If the paint starts to lift, use a sharp tool to cut along the edge and stop further peeling.
